Intro to Design Build

Design –build projects have increased more than 40% since 2005. Owners, designers and contractors are switching to this project delivery system from the traditional design-bid-build system.  There are many reasons why.  Throughout this site we explore why and provide you with the tools to become certified in design-build.

When considering design-build as a project delivery system you must also consider the procurement method and the contract format. There are several choices to chose from and you will want to pick one that is best suited for your project.

There is a logic flow that begins at Project Feasibility and continues through Team Selection, Design and Construction, and sometimes to, Operation and Maintenance.

We will explore Wick’s Law, the Code of Hammurabi, the Spearin Doctrine and the Betterment Principle to better understand the history of design-build and the origins.

Now, represents an amazing opportunity for industry professionals to develop design-build skills that will allow them to exceed in today’s competitive construction world.  When you need to delivery a project quickly, when you want to put the risk where it belongs, when you want to welcome innovation and new technologies, choose design-build.

Whether you are building a 5 story steel building or a sports stadium, design-build maybe the best option.  Some of the world’s largest projects are design-build projects including the TxDOT State Highway 130 Design-Build project and the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Surge Barrier design-build project  in New Orleans.

The future looks bright for this project delivery system.  Everyday we are seeing new laws that allows municipalities to procure design build contracts.  Join us.
